What is your Relationship with STEM Core?
I am a Student Support Specialist and have been with the STEM Core for a year
How/Why did you/Palomar choose to get involved with the program?
Although the program was underway before I came on, the overall goal is to help students, particularly underrepresented students become Calculus ready so they feel confident Math skills and STEM overall as it is such a competitive field.
What need does the STEM Core program help fulfill for your campus?
At Palomar STEM Core creates a community based learning atmosphere as the focus is on cohorts. I see it everyday, and constantly hear from our students how the smaller groups really help to build connection and make them feel like they are a part of something!
What benefits has the program brought to the Palomar College Community?
The STEM Core provides so many benefits students would not have access to otherwise. Aside from academics, building developmental skills, and overall access/support we have 3 of our students that have secured internships (summer 2021) that they wouldn’t have been exposed to without the STEM Core program.

STEM Core honestly feels like family. Students want to feel like they have a place to come together to share ideas, struggles, and accomplishments. The STEM Core provides an integrated community that is fun but academically driven.
